Rubellite
Rubellite is the trade name for pink to red elbaite tourmaline. Fine rubellite with pure red hue is the most popular among collectors as it resembles high quality ruby. Strongly saturated red tourmalines are very rare and valuable. Fine quality tourmaline gemstones come mostly from Brazilian mines, deposits can also be found in Africa and Asia. Rubellite was a popular material in Qing Dynasty among the high society where it was widely used for carving such as pendants and snuff bottles. To be offered in Lot 41 and 252 are good examples of high quality rubellites.
