Emerald and Diamond Pendent Necklace, Van Cleef & Arpels

Suspending a pear-shaped emerald weighing 13.86 carats, decorated with pear-shaped and brilliant-cut diamonds extending to the necklace, the diamonds together weighing approximately 8.00 carats, mounted in 18 karat yellow gold, signed and numbered N.Y.50088, length approximately 350mm.

Accompanied by Gübelin report numbered 17102046, dated 25 October 2017, stating that the 13.86 carat emerald is natural, Green colour, of Colombian origin, with indications of minor clarity enhancement; with condition, stating that 'Natural emeralds are commonly clarity enhanced.'

VAN CLEEF & ARPELS

Back in the day, Van Cleef & Arpels is a French jewellery and watch company that was founded in 1906, and has always been renowned for their expertise in precious stones and signature pieces with designs inspired by flowers and animals, their pieces have earned the admiration of celebrities and public figures. Their historical special orders portfolio include numerous royal jewellery, such as The Océan necklace for Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco, as well as the crown Empress Farah Pahlavi of Iran wore for her 1967 coronation ceremony. German actress Marlene Dietrich, one of the key celebrities in 20th century, was an iconic ambassador for Van Cleef & Arpels. Her famous Jarretière bracelet is a masterpiece of 1930s design and it is the only piece of jewellery with which she was reluctant to part. It was sold for US$ 990,000 at auction shortly before her death in 1992 and it is now part of an anonymous private collection.

Van Cleef & Arpels is an embodiment of love as it is all started with a romantic love story. Estelle Arpels, who was the daughter of a dealer in precious stones, met a boy named Alfred Van Cleef, the son of a stonecutter. They fell in love and got married in the end of the 19th century. They wished to create something that lasts forever. That gave birth to the prestigious jewellery brand.
