Jadeite Leaf
German philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz once said, “No two leaves in the world are ever exactly alike.” This suggests that all things share something in common, while each of them is unique in its own way. Such a philosophical conjecture especially holds true when applied on jadeite. As an aggregate, jadeite is noted for its changing appearances, induced by the interplay of external and internal factors. Even two jadeite pieces from the same jadeite boulder may look distinctly different. Despite the wide ranges of attractive colour, the yardstick for appreciating jadeite underlined by the principles of ‘fineness, density, translucency and evenness’. This is why jadeite has been exerting such a bewitching hold over its discerning connoisseurs.
Jadeite leaves have always been a favourite theme for jade carvers. Symbolizing life, hope, peace and friendship, leaves bring a combination of beauty and anticipation to beholders. Because each tree leaf is different in real life, jade carvers are free to create the leaves with their myriad appearances and details.
This season, Tiancheng International presents three sets of jadeite leaves jewellery, including a jadeite leaf and diamond pendant (Lot 82), a pair of dangling earrings (Lot 81) and an icy jadeite leaf and diamond pendant (Lot 119), each distinguished by its unique look, enticing colour and fine texture.
