”The Taihu Stone series reveals the subtle transformation of realistic and abstract art language and the experience of Chinese traditional culture with western one. He Jun has already shown the sign of further exploration on oil painting techniques. This is due to his personality and, what’s more, his in-depth insight and experience of Chinese traditional culture and western art. On the concept of realistic painting, he started his artistic journey, and went through the exchanges and transformations between Chinese and western cultures. Gradually he found a perfect joint for both eastern and western painting techniques. Taihu stone is the right choice of his reflection and exploration in the art world. The effort which he has made help to re-interpret the literati spirit and the spiritual freedom, which builds a linkage between traditional Chinese and western style. Under the present cultural realm of Chinese contemporary oil painting, He Jun is no doubt a witness of the transformation in Chinese art history. His practice of creating rocks on canvas re-inspires us that the development of Chinese oil paintings has expanded from the exploration specifically focused on painting techniques to an in-depth pondering on humanity.
